What does winter mean for you?

Winter is another season to experience for its unique gifts that it gives us, just as the other seasons do.  Where I am, we are often very snowbound.  I love the trees laden heavy with snow, the earth blanketed and quieted.  We get to experience the cold, and to love to cuddle in blankets in peace.

I love the cooler air and snow. We don’t get a lot of snow, but when we do, it is beautiful because it is like magic, covering up all the ugliness around us with a perfect blanket of white. Once it has been walked in, though, it loses the magic. I do miss being able to go outside and be in the yard, though. Our house is pretty drafty and with the cost to heat it, we are cold most of the winter so I don’t love it as much as I used to. Nothing beats a nice, soft blanket of snow on everything on a day when you can stay home and cuddle under a blanket with a warm drink.

Great question! I especially love the look of fresh fallen snow against a blue sky. Two days ago, the sunset here had a purplish hue, so it frosted the white hills with a perfect shade of lilac…one of those ponderous moments when you stop and give thanks for thedecorator at work. When we have snow, winter is also aboutbuilding snowmen with my sons and sledding down steep hills until our faces are numb :) Then back inside for some hot chocolate and/or tea andwe snuggle in with a good puzzle or book. Growing up, we had several animals, so it was about keeping them alive in the harsh conditions - feeding and milking cows day and night…horses, dogs, cats… I can remember skating up and down our frozen creek with my snow boots and plucking icicles from the edge of the barn to suck on. And snow ice cream - a wonderful way to taste the snow (just make sure it’s fresh)!
